With the addition of a new science exhibition and richer and more relevant STEM programming, it aims to elevate a child's ability and appreciation for learning through age 12. In 2022, as a result of a strategic assessment and visioning process, the museum extended the age range of the children it serves. The food in the cafe is pretty good as well, even if you're picky about what you like your children to eat.The Mid-Hudson Children's Museum ( MHCM) is a children's museum in the Hudson River Valley between the larger New York City and Albany markets. There is some refreshing that some of the exhibits need do to the amount of traffic that the museum gets, but that doesn't detract from the wonderful experience. I haven't covered nearly everything, as there's something for every interest. When we went last, it was Bob the Builder which worked our really well for my four and one year old. The art area is a lot of fun, but bring some hand wipes with you. They have a closed in area for four and under with a well-equipped little play kitchen and baby-sized slide if you need to take a break from chasing them around. They have thoughtfully provided back closing aprons to keep little ones drier, but no one comes out completely dry. The short water play is perfect for my 1 year old.

The large indoor playground in the water play area has several challenging and fun areas. We've gone several times over the years, and my oldest has discovered new favorite sections of the museum each time we've gone. They've covered all of the bases with this interactive museum. This museum is great for birthday parties, great for education, great for fun and great for kids of all ages. You can try to avoid school groups by staying out of the areas they are currently in. Some school groups the parents and teachers have zero control over the kids and the kids knock my kids over and are really wild and rude. It depends on the school group whether this is a problem or not. I have never had anything stolen there/ We do during the day on weekdays to avoid crowds but sometimes we catch school groups. They have a little closet area you can drop off coats or strollers etc. If you have small children you can take your stroller in and if you want leave it at the front desk. I think kids will love this museum and I highly recommend it.
CREATIVE DISCOVERY MUSEUM PAY FREE
I hate that they don't have their own parking because even with a membership I have to pay for parking every time so it is never free for us to go. They charge like 5 dollars and there is not always an attendant out there so if you don't have exact change you are screwed.

There is a pay parking lot behind the museum that sometimes has spaces open. There is no parking downtown that is free. I just buy some chips or a drink and the kids eat the food I brought them. You can't have food or drinks in the museum but you can eat it at the cafe. They don't really allow outside food but I always bring some in because my son has food allergies and they never say anything to me.

We just love the entire place! I also like the little cafe they have because they sell healthier food options. My boys especially love the rooftop fun factory, the dinosaur area, the music area, the little yellow house (which is the area for babies and toddlers up to age 5). The museum has great traveling exhibits which are nice because there is always something fresh to do there. The parties there are nice because they have several teenagers in there helping with the party so you don't have to do much. I had my twin boys 2nd birthday party there in the Rainbow room.
